Gaia's Garden I

Imagery that represents a cross pollination of nature with art and science as an expression of gratitude and mindfulness for the natural world that surrounds us through wild and cultivated flowers. The work serves as a platform for contemplation through color, texture, patterns and imaging details inherent to the composition of each flower from both an external and internal perspective.

Layering translucent dye-sublimated textiles results in abstracted ethereal compositions that combine floral attributes perceptible to the naked eye with those only ever visible through SEM (scanning electron microscopic) imaging technologies - presenting a world within a world.

All microscopic imaging derived from original Scanning Electron Microscopic Imaging by Erwin Huebner, cell biologist and visual artist erwinhuebner.com

Description: Lens-based imagery involving both photographs and SEM imagery, dye sublimation on textile, wood stretcher bars

Dimensions: 72” x 48” x 1.5"

Date: 2025

This project was supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
